WHY PEOPLE PLAY
A block puzzle game turns an open grid into a sequence of spatial decisions. In GridD, you choose from three fixed pieces, place one into empty cells, and clear each full row or column. There is no single prescribed solution: every placement changes which shapes can fit next.
That makes the genre useful for both a quick break and a longer score run. The controls take seconds to understand, but a strong run depends on reading space, delaying tempting placements, and recovering from an untidy board.
Block puzzles reward space, not speed
The most important resource is not your score. It is the number and quality of future placements the board can still accept. Big rectangles, long channels, and an open center give the next tray options. Tiny gaps and fragmented corners do the opposite.
One GridD placement can clear two lines
On GridD’s 8×8 board, the bottom row has a three-cell gap in columns 3–5 while column 3 is filled above it. Place the horizontal three-cell piece in that gap: it completes the row and column together, and GridD clears both. The matching guide shows the full starting position and explains when an intersection is worth building.
